Tips on Investing In Grand Bahama
Incentives for the property/industrial investor/international investor
The Industrial Encouragement Act, the Caribbean Basin Initiative, the General System of Preferences, and the LOME Agreements make it very attractive to start and operate a business in the Bahamas. They permit the manufacture and export of goods to the USA and the Common Market. You should inquire to determine which range of concessions will best benefit your business. The government will encourage you to start a light industrial venture or any development that will contribute to the tourist infrastructure in Freeport or Grand Bahama. The Ministries of Economic Development and Tourism have feasibility studies for a number of enterprises and can supply detailed advice and information.
International business corporation (non-resident—does not own real estate)
The International Business Companies Act (“The Act”) received assent on January 11, 1990, and provides for the incorporation, registration and operation of international business companies (“IBCs”). A company may be formed and registered within 48 hours as an IBC to establish ‘non-resident’ status. IBCs are a modern form of corporate vehicle having advantages not available to resident companies incorporated in the Bahamas. The Act is an important item of legislation in order for the Bahamas to maintain its position as a competitive offshore financial centre.
